Electricity System Transition for a Renewable-Powered Future 25th November

Electricity System Transition for a Renewable-Powered Future

The installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) has expanded in Kyushu area, where the maximum instantaneous output of solar PV reached more than 90% of electricity demand in spring 2018 around noon. Solar PV and wind outputs have been partially curtailed to keep balance of supply and demand. What are the challenges for the further efficient use of renewable energy? How can we address them?

In this symposium, experts from Germany, Sweden and the United States will be invited to discuss national initiatives and future prospects for the realization of a future shaped by renewable energy. How to turn to a renewable-powered future will be explored through these discussions.

Japan-Canada Student Training Workshop on Low Carbon Urban Energy System

August 19 to 24, 2019

A five-day training workshop was hosted by the “Energy and Environmental Systems (EES) laboratory” located at IGSES, Chikushi Campus. The workshop was attended by a group of students from the “Centennial College, SaGE, Toronto, Canada”. The workshop was built around a number of lectures from the expert speakers: Dr. Eric Zusman, IGES, Dr. Hadi Farabi-Asl, I2CNER  and Prof. Stephen Lyth, Q-pit. Professor Farzaneh and his students presented their research projects and discussed the key policies and instruments which can be developed in order to establish a low carbon urban energy system. A hands-on exercise session was also provided in this workshop in order to provide training for two newly developed tools at EES: ” Co-benefits assessment in the Transport sector” and ” Urban Sustainable Development Index (USDI)”. Through combination of lectures and hands-on exercises, the participants tried to practice key policies and scenarios and extremely learned how to develop their own strategic plans. Our friendly and constructive workshop ended with a cool cultural tour in Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine on the last day.
