The Kyushu University Platform of Inter/Transdisciplinary Energy Research (Q-PIT) was established in 2016 with the aim of bringing together the University’s outstanding research capabilities and educational resources in the field of energy to contribute to addressing global energy and environmental challenges and realizing a sustainable society.

In recent years, the challenges surrounding energy have become increasingly complex. While international efforts toward achieving a decarbonized society continue to advance, there is a growing need to address a wide range of issues from multiple perspectives, including energy security, industrial competitiveness, and the sustainable development of local communities.To tackle these challenges, it is essential to harness “integrated knowledge” by bringing together diverse fields of expertise, encompassing not only the natural sciences but also the humanities, social sciences, and information sciences, to create new value.

Kyushu University, under the vision of “A University Driving Social Change with Integrated Knowledge,” promotes world-class education and research. As a university-wide platform for energy-related research and education, Q-PIT has created opportunities for researchers and students from diverse fields to collaborate across disciplinary and departmental boundaries, thereby promoting interdisciplinary research and educational activities. Q-PIT also works to facilitate the societal implementation of research outcomes through collaboration with industry, local governments, and research institutions, while fostering highly skilled professionals who will lead the future.

Moving forward, Q-PIT will further advance research and educational activities toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, while also fostering professionals capable of developing strategies for the societal implementation and commercialization of research outcomes. Through co-creation among industry, academia, government, and civil society, we will strive to create new value and foster innovation. At the same time, we will view regional challenges from a global perspective and disseminate, both in Japan and internationally, research outcomes generated through collaboration between Kyushu University and national universities in the Kyushu region to address these challenges, thereby serving as a bridge between the region and the world.

The challenges facing the energy sector can only be overcome through collaboration that transcends disciplinary and organizational boundaries. As a platform for co-creation where diverse knowledge and talent come together, inspire one another, and create new value, Q-PIT will continue to support ambitious endeavors, connect the region with the world, and nurture the next generation of talent. As a world-leading hub for the creation of knowledge in the energy sector, we will explore the future of energy with a view toward society in 2100 and contribute to the realization of a sustainable future.
