| Title of the Research | Highly Efficient Ammonia Oxidation by a Macrocyclic Molecular Catalyst |
| Outline of Research | These days, ammonia has attracted much attention as a new energy carrier. However, ammonia oxidation to nitrogen has not been developed well because of 6 electrons oxidation reaction. On the other hand, macrocyclic metal complexes like porphyrins or phthalocyanines have been reported as water oxidation catalysts which is 4 electrons oxidation reaction. These molecular catalysts promote water oxidation via bimolecular mechanism. The bimolecular mechanism is important to promote ammonia oxidation efficiently because 3 electrons oxidation of catalyst is enough. In this study, highly efficient ammonia oxidation is achieved by using a novel macrocyclic molecular catalyst. |
