Title of the Research Research on the production of high-performance carbon fiber using stranded resources
Outline of Research “Stranded resources” refer to resources that have lost value due to environmental and social changes. An example is ethylene bottom oil (EO), a heavy residue oil discharged during ethylene production. This is currently used as boiler fuel and is responsible for a large amount of CO2 emissions. Therefore, this study focuses on EO as one of the stranded resources and attempts to make effective use of EO. The production of EO-derived high-performance carbon fiber will contribute to the removal of potential CO2 emission sources and the construction of an innovative decarbonized society. We will propose a new and unprecedented production method to manufacture high-performance carbon fibers, aiming for low-cost and high-yield production.
