Title of the Research | Research on the production of high-performance carbon fiber using stranded resources |
Outline of Research | “Stranded resources” refer to resources that have lost value due to environmental and social changes. An example is ethylene bottom oil (EO), a heavy residue oil discharged during ethylene production. This is currently used as boiler fuel and is responsible for a large amount of CO2 emissions. Therefore, this study focuses on EO as one of the stranded resources and attempts to make effective use of EO. The production of EO-derived high-performance carbon fiber will contribute to the removal of potential CO2 emission sources and the construction of an innovative decarbonized society. We will propose a new and unprecedented production method to manufacture high-performance carbon fibers, aiming for low-cost and high-yield production. |
