Title of the Research Nanoparticle modified oxide as model air electrode for oxygen reduction site
Outline of Research Global warming and climate change induce serious problems in the earth’s life due to the usage of fossil fuels. These life-threatening problems must be solved by replacing fossil fuels to hydrogen, which has an important role to develop a clean, efficient, and environmental-friendly energy society. For green hydrogen production, high-temperature steam electrolysis (HTSE) is expecting to be used through Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOECs), which is reverse reaction of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs), electrochemical energy-conversion devices that convert chemical energy directly to electrical energy with high efficiency and low pollution. This hybrid energy system requires highly active electrode for ORR/OER to produce hydrogen and electricity efficiently. Therefore, I study to understand active sites for ORR and OER design oxygen dissociation and association reaction. By doing so, it can decrease IR loss and overpotential to boost cell performance as well as improve the reversibility and durability of the single cell.
