Title of the Research Realization of decarbonization coexisting with food production: Creation of environmentally resilient biomass energy resource crops through photosynthetic modification based on functional genomics.
Outline of Research This study aims to utilize stress-tolerant plants as alternative biofuel crops grown in non-crop areas to secure stable biomass energy resource crops and create new resource crops resilient to environmental stress. We will use bioinformatics to comprehensively analyze the structure and function of genes and non-genetic regions related to high-stress tolerance and photosynthetic conversion mechanisms and to modify the genes and non-translational regions in the target plants. In addition, we will establish a cultivation method to enhance the components of biofuels and other raw materials and establish a production method for biofuel crops that does not compete with food crops.
