Every Swedish and Japanese energy and climate policy decision in the dataset, both
countries on one time axis and one pixel scale so the two are directly comparable. Sweden
(SE) is the upper lane, Japan (JP) the lower. A marker is a decision; the bar behind it
is how long that instrument stayed in force; the band under each lane is who was in government at the
time. Marker shape carries legal status and marker colour carries direction of travel, so neither is
read from colour alone. Nothing on this page is typed by hand: it is rendered from
sources/policy/policy_history_dataset.md by scripts/build_policy_timeline.py.
Every figure below is computed from the dataset when the page loads — none is typed in, and none is quoted from the manuscript. Each row states its own computation, so a reader can disagree with the definition rather than with the number. These count the whole dataset, not the current filter state.
Every plotted decision, in the same order and under the same filters as the figure, for screen readers and for anyone who would rather read the data than look at it. The id in the first column links to that decision's card.
