Future Society Think-Tank Research Unit

This unit is aimed at envisioning sustainable energy systems for future societies, and at promoting transdisciplinary energy research and education throughout Kyushu University. Our unit is working as a think-tank, which is committed to integrating the activities of the other Q-PIT units by considering the multi-faceted economic, environmental and social aspects of their research. We will further cooperate with organizations both within and outside the university to propose technologies and policies that can facilitate the realization of a low-carbon, renewable energy society, from a long-to-mid term viewpoint. In addition, academic members of the think-tank unit will play a central role in offering introductory energy courses in Japanese and English, such as “Future Society and Alternative Energy” and “Towards a Hydrogen Society: Science, Economics and Policy”. These courses aim to link the activities of Q-Pit to Kyushu University’s student education and future energy research.

① Head of Research Unit Professor  Yoshida Kentaro

I am in charge of the think-tank field with environmental economics as a base. We are conducting research on what kind of future society will emerge to follow our fast-evolving modern society, looking at such things as next-generation automobiles and renewable energy utilization, natural capital and beneficiary payment, establishment of a sustainable society with SDGs and ESG investments, domestic and international technological innovations and their impact on a carbon-free society.

② Energy and Society Associate Professor Robert Lindner

As a political scientist I have a particular interest in energy and environmental governance, international development, and sustainability transition theory. My current research focuses on low-carbon technology transfer and energy system transitions in developing states, and the potential socio-environmental impacts of future clean energy technologies.
